Thanks as always Ted--this was a really good one ;)
Expanding on Kendrick (the GOAT irrespective of his currently "good enough" responses), I sometimes think about the music video for DNA. It beautifully showcases how words, when dialectically attuned to both logic and emotion, can motivate even the MAN to understand another person's perspective, on an almost spiritual level. That sample from Geraldo is, harmoniously enough, a jumping off point for effective altruism (EA).
Specifically, I think Bertrand Russell (two first names, LOL) has done more damage to the default "global mode of thinking" than anyone else from the last 2 centuries. Everything from EA to prioritization of positivism / falsification / measurement (only one of whose downstream effects leads to market climates where the aggressive financialization of Boeing becomes favorable) to de-prioritization of different knowledge categories has been pretty toxic.
We need more empathy, both for its own sake, in general, and to combat this Russell-thinking, in specific.
